The only thing that they really do remember is their name. They are watched by large mechanical beetles, called 'beetle blades' which belong to their 'creators'.
The ultimate goal of The Gladers, is to find a way out of The Glade. To do so, the runners venture into the Maze every day, to map it in an attempt to find a pattern in the Maze that would lead them to find an exit.
When Thomas, a curious newcomer, arrives at the Glade and ventures into the Maze, unusual things begin to happen. The Gladers thought that getting through the maze was it; however, they did not know that their world was scorched by the sun.
The Scorch Trials
The Gladers did not know that they would have to fight for their lives once more. Burning and naked, the earth is a wasteland, its people driven mad by an infection known as "The Flare".
Instead of freedom, the Gladers must face another Trial. In the final book of "The Maze Runner" Series, Thomas is locked up in solitary confinement for four weeks.
He warns them that many people in the outside world hate them because of their unnatural resistance to the Flare, and that if they escape they will most likely be in more danger.
Thomas, Newt, and Minho refuse restoration and they later escape with Jorge and Brenda. It is the first novel in narrative order, set prior to the events of The Fever Code and 13 years before the events in The Maze Runner. Of the novel, Dashner stated that he wanted to expand the world, but not focus on the main characters of the main Maze Runner trilogy.

Mark and Trina were there when it happened, and survived. Now a disease of rage and lunacy races across the eastern United States, and there's something suspicious about its origin and it's mutating, and all evidence suggests that it will bring humanity to its knees.
Mark and Trina are convinced there's a way to save those left living from descending into madness. It is the second prequel and the fifth installment of The Maze Runner series.
The novel is written from the various points of view of "The Gladers". The book primarily focuses on the training that Thomas and the others undergo before being sent into the Maze, however, it also explores the relationships between the Gladers before they underwent "the Swipe" that suppressed their memories, describes "the Purge" that is briefly mentioned in The Death Cure , and the lives of the Gladers before Thomas' insertion into the Maze, since during the events in the book he is working for WICKED.
This book gives a background of the series, providing the reader with information they have been asking themselves. The book ends with the final moments before Thomas enters the Box, when he is betrayed and sent into the Maze at the beginning of The Maze Runner.
He is the main protagonist of the series, named after Thomas Edison. He has a slight limp from attempting suicide when he was a Runner. Newt was named after Sir Isaac Newton. He is the brother of Sonya, a girl in Group B, who he called Lizzy.
Not audible, not visible. But he heard it all the same, though never could he have explained to anyone how it worked. Exhaling a deep breath, he relaxed into his pillow, his razor-edged nerves settling down from that fleeting moment of terror.
He spoke back, forming the words with his thoughts. What time is it? No idea, she replied.
I probably dozed for an hour or so. Maybe more. I was hoping you were awake to keep me company.
Thomas tried not to smile. Waa, waa. Go back to bed, then. He stared at the bottom of the bunk above him—featureless and darkly fuzzy in the shadow—where Minho was currently breathing like a guy with ungodly amounts of phlegm lodged in his throat. What do you think? Somehow she projected a jab of cynicism into the words. I keep seeing Grievers. Their disgusting skin and blubber bodies, all those metal arms and spikes.
It was way too close for comfort, Tom. Thomas knew what he thought. Those images would never leave—the Gladers would be haunted by the horrible things that had happened in the Maze for the rest of their lives. He figured that most if not all of them would have major psychological problems.
Maybe even go completely nutso. And above it all, he had one image burned into his memories as strongly as a branded mark from a searing hot iron.
His friend Chuck, stabbed in the chest, bleeding, dying as Thomas held him. Thomas knew he would never forget that. But what he said to Teresa was: I know. How ridiculous was it that he loved hearing her say something like that to him?
That her sarcasm meant things were going to be okay?

I hate that they separated me from you guys, she said. Thomas understood why they had, though. Guess they were protecting you. I guess. Melancholy seeped into his brain with her words, stuck to them like syrup. But it sucks being alone after everything we went through.
She sounded so sad that he almost wanted to get up and look for her, but he knew better. Just on the other side of that big common room where we ate last night. See, told ya they wanted to protect you. Then he quickly added, Not that you need protecting. Only half? Okay, three-quarters. Including me. A long stretch of silence followed, though somehow Thomas could still sense her presence.
He felt her. When someone is close by, you just know it. Despite all the memories of the last few weeks, Thomas was surprisingly calm, and soon sleep overpowered him once more. Darkness settled on his world, but she was there, next to him in so many ways.
Almost … touching. He had no concept of time passing while in that state. That they were safe, that he and Teresa could get to know each other all over again. That life could be good. Blissful sleep. Hazy darkness. A physical glow.

Almost floating. The world seemed to fade away. All became numb and sweet. And the darkness, somehow comforting.
He slipped into a dream. Four, maybe? Lying in a bed with blankets pulled to his chin. A woman sits next to him, her hands folded in her lap.
She has long brown hair, a face just beginning to show signs of age. Her eyes are sad. He wants to say something, ask her a question. She begins to talk, a sound so simultaneously sweet and angry it disturbs him. Never forget that. Even though it is him.
None of it makes sense. Like … Daddy? This is his mother. His … mommy. Too fast the dream faded into blackness, leaving Thomas in a void with nothing but his thoughts. Had he seen another memory crawl up from the depths of his amnesia? Had he really seen his mom? The ache inside Thomas was deep and gnawing, and he tried to sink further into oblivion. Later—how much later he had no idea—Teresa spoke to him again.
He heard Teresa say those three words, but it seemed from far away, as if spoken down a long and cluttered tunnel. His slumber had become a viscous liquid, thick and sticky, trapping him.
He became aware of himself, but realized he was removed from the world, entombed by exhaustion. She screamed it. A piercing rattle in his head. He felt the first trickle of fear, but it was more like a dream. He could only sleep. And they were safe now, nothing to worry about anymore. Yeah, it had to be a dream. Teresa was fine, they were all fine. He relaxed again, let himself drown in slumber. Other sounds snuck their way into his consciousness.
The clang of metal against metal. Something shattering. Boys shouting. More like the echo of shouts, very distant, muted. Suddenly they became more like screams. Unearthly cries of anguish. But still distant. Finally something pricked the comfort of sleep. Teresa had called for him, told him something was wrong! He fought the deep sleep that had consumed him, clawed at the heavy weight pinning him down. Wake up! Then something disappeared from inside him.
There one instant, gone the next. He felt as if a major organ had just been ripped from his body. It had been her.A woman sits next to him, her hands folded in her lap. Even though it is him. Come on. Instead of being named after someone historically famous, he is named after Dashner's niece's Korean husband. His … mommy. Views Total views. Sequel to:
